For over 45 years Mack Luchey has been the proud owner of Doris Records Inc, a virtual institution in the heart of the African American community. Doris Records has been opened longer than any other record store in the city, and is the largest African American owned and operated record store in WNY. In the 1960s when hotels refused to cater to black entertainers, Mack and Doris provided room for them in their home. His store also became the perfect venue for African American artists to promote their records. “Mighty” Mack’s generosity and support has impacted many programs in our community, especially in church and educational. Not only does Doris’s serve our community, but also serves the prison population through clothing, music, and literature. Luchey was a great Community leader and a pioneer in the music industry – and thanks to Doris Record’s, East Ferry and Jefferson will remain strong!
